At Vine Cottage we are committed to contuously improving our environmental footprint, but without compromising the quality of our service.

We have now been awarded a SILVER AWARD by the Green Tourism Business scheme.  To celebrate this we are introducing GREEN POINTS, which can be collected towards a free nights stay.  See welcome page for details.

This statement sets out our goals, current and future actions to achieve this aim.

Current actions:

Our complementary toiletries are being changed to the Cole and Lewis(London) range which offer a little luxury, however they use botanical extracts and are free of SLES, parabens and propylene glycol. We are also able to buy in bulk containers in order to avoid uneccessary packaging

Where possible food used is from local sources (ie our own hens), lowering our food milage. Our presearves are homemade from garden or local hedgerow ingredients. Why not try one of our handmade Wiltshire sausages, a different flavour every morning!

We display an environmental policy regarding our towel changes, allowing guests to decide whether washing is necesary.

Light bulbs are either low energy mini flourescent or halogen.

Electrical appliances are either switched off or where must remain on, are switched to standby. Kitchen appliances are chosen to be A or B ratings.

Central heating radiators are fitted with thermostatic valves and can be set by guests to suit their needs.

All food waste - cooked, raw and even bones are committed to our "Green Cone food digester" totally avoiding food waste in landfill. The digester uses bacteria to breakdown the food waste leaving only water as a residue.

Garden waste is consigned to one of our four compost bins.

We recover all recyclable waste from guest waste bins.

Waste glass, paper, cardboard, recyclable plastics  and textiles are put out for curb side collection. and drink cartons are disposed of at the local ammenity tip - when we are going in that direction, we do not make a special journey.

Rain water is collected in butts for use in the garden.

Clean water from washing vegetables etc, is collected and added to water butts.

Our toilets are either duel flush or have had "hippo's" inserted into the cysterns, to reduce water wastage. The toilet rolls use recyled paper.

Under consideration.

Replacing current lighting with LED light bulbs.
